Getting to know your Myotherapist
Emily has been working in the health and fitness industry for over 25 years and as a Myotherapist for most of them.
Having initially completed a degree in Human Movement, Emily saw the benefits of combining exercise and manual therapies to help her clients achieve their goals, which led her to complete her Myotherapy qualification.
Wanting to share her knowledge with others, Emily went on to complete a post graduate qualification in Secondary Education, but found herself spending the majority of her teaching time in Vocational Education developing and teaching Massage, Myotherapy and Fitness courses. As the general manager of a leading RTO in Victoria she was able to engage with many people in the industry and ensure her knowledge of the health and fitness industries stayed up-to-date.
The desire to re-engage with client and find a better work-life balance led her to develop Wyndham Myotherapy - a place for holistic treatments and personal development.

Things we get asked a lot
No. Massage is a technique that Myotherapst uses, just like many other therapist including Physiotherapist. Myotherapy looks at the client in greater detail to understand why you have come for treatment and work with you to self manage the condition.
Whilst both treatments use similar tools, their techniques and theories are different.
Dry needling is typically used to treats muscle pain and tension and often inserted into trigger points, while acupuncture is based on Traditional Chinese Medicine and aims to balance the body’s energy flow along meridian points.
Both dry needling and acupuncture stimulate the body’s natural healing process by releasing endorphins and other natural pain-relieving chemicals. They treat diverse conditions, including chronic pain, muscle tension, and headaches.
Dry needling focuses on specific trigger points, while acupuncture focuses on specific points along energy pathways.
Its important to remember that the needles used for dry needling are really thin and not like a needle at the Doctors - most clients don’t even feel them! Just like all modalities though, if there is something you are not comfortable with, please inform your therapist who will provide an alternative treatment.
Each client is different and whilst there are some general injury recovery guidelines, there is no golden rule. Whilst most people report feeling some relief after a treatment or having increased range of movement, it may not result in a permanent fix.
Most chronic conditions develop over a significant period of time and without addressing the cause it will most likely continue to present itself. Regular treatments and planning can allow for continual improvements and help you to identify the triggers before they progress.
Everyone has different preferences when it come to massage, but that doesn’t mean you need to sacrifice the niceties.
Typically if you are having a myotherapy treatment it is to address an issue that you are having. Sometimes that issue may just be do de-stress and relax. If this is the case, let your therapist know and we adjust our treatment. Relaxation and remedial massage are part of the training we need to have completed before commencing myotherapy – we can even have a cup of tea waiting for you when you finish your treatment!
